The Greater Kansas City Alumnae of Delta Gamma are dedicated to raising money and volunteering for the area's organizations that provide services to the visually impaired as well as supporting the Delta Gamma Foundation.
Children's Center for the Visually Impaired
The mission of Children's Center for the Visually Impaired (CCVI) is to prepare children with visual impairments, including those with multiple disabilities, to function at their highest potential in the sighted world. By providing an atomosphere that is rich in diverse experiences, focused on potential rather that limitations and based on sound educations principles and best practices, children are prepared for continued success long after their transition out of CCVI. CCVI has helped more that 2,500 childre.
Alphapointe
The mission of Alphapointe is to empower people with vision loss to mximize their independence. There are an estimated 80,000 legally blind or severely visually impaired residents in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Alphapointe offers servies to those who have recently lost their vision and to those who have been blind since birth. Those services include orientation, mobility and daily living skills training, diabetes management, Adaptive Technology and employment skills traning, counseling, Creative Arts, Braille transcription services, and Senior Adult services.
Delta Gamma Foundation
In 1936, Delta Gamma adopted Sight Conservation and Aid to the Blind as an international project. The Ruth Billow Memorial Fund provides financial aid to visually impaired members and eduational grants to those members pursuing careers in services to the visually impaired. Scholarships were added to the program in 1957, and now more than $300,000 is awarded annually to recognize and assist outstanding members. Delta Gammas give more than 90,000 hours a year in volunteer service to the community. More information is available at: Delta Gamma Foundation
